These qualiﬁcations are an introduction to the primary aspects of working with children and young people between the ages of 4 to 16 in play environments. They provide an understanding of playwork values, and the importance of play and playwork in children and young people’s lives.
The Award and Certiﬁcate are mainly knowledge based, with a limited amount of practical application. The Diploma covers the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision. It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Playwork Apprenticeship.
Anyone who wishes to work in a supervised role in a wide range of playwork environments.
You should be at least 16 years old.
The Award requires 10 credits, the Certiﬁcate requires 25 and the Diploma requires 61.
They will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. These may include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.
For the Award and Certiﬁcate you will only require basic access to a playwork environment.
For the Diploma you will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement, as you need to demonstrate competence in knowledge and skills.
You can usually complete them in a year or less.
