These qualiﬁcations provide an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. They include learning about children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare and communication.
The Award is suitable for those not yet working in a Level 3 school role but who can achieve at this Level. In addition, it is suitable as initial training. The Level 3 Certiﬁcate is appropriate for those working in unsupervised roles that support pupils’ learning.
You should be at least 16 years old.
The Award requires 12 credits and the Certiﬁcate requires 32. Credits from the Award can be carried over and counted towards the Certiﬁcate.
They will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a variety of methods. These may include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a set task.
Learners completing the Award do not need to be working.
Learners undertaking the Certificate will need to be working or volunteering in a school environment as they will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
You can usually complete them in a year.
